Here’s how you’ll find out which of your eSIMs are using data:

On iOS:

To check which eSIM is selected for data, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings on your device
  2. Tap Cellular or Mobile
  3. Go to Cellular Data to see the plan used for data
  4. If you have multiple eSIMs installed, your device will display the available plans as long as they are “On” under Cellular Plans.

On android:

(Please note these steps may differ depending on your device. These steps do not apply to Samsung devices).

  1. Go to Settings on your device
  2. Go to Network & Internet
  3. Go to Mobile Network to find the active plans

If you have multiple eSIMs installed, your device will specify which eSIM is being used by displaying its label. Your eSIM label is the nickname you chose for your eSIM at the time of installation.

Each eSIM can only be installed on a single device. Keep in mind that most eSIMs can only be installed once. If you remove the eSIM from your device, you won’t be able to install it again.

You can safely remove eSIMs from your device if:

There is no longer an active data package for the eSIM

When you buy an eSIM from us, it always comes with a data package that’s ready to be activated. You can see this on your account, which is accessible through the KPN travel website. If there’s still an active data package, which hasn’t expired yet, do not delete the eSIM from your device.

You no longer have a use for it

Some eSIMs from KPN can only be used once and can’t be topped up. You can remove these eSIMs after your plan ran out. You can safely remove your eSIM as well when you no longer plan on using it.

A new eSIM is for the same country or region

When you buy an eSIM from our store, you’ll receive a new eSIM each time. The new eSIM will always have to be freshly installed. It’s always a good idea to with a clean slate. That way you’ll avoid confusion with previous eSIMs you bought from our store.

To remove an eSIM from your device, navigate to your device’s Mobile/Cellular Settings. Tap on the eSIM you want to delete and select “Remove Mobile Data Plan”. Depending on the device, it can also be “Remove eSIM”, “Delete Mobile Plan” or something similar.

Yes. You can use your personal hotspot with your eSIM if it’s supported by your device and the network you’re currently on. Just the way you’re used to at home.

On iOS:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Personal Hotspot
  3. Toggle on “Allow Others to Join”

Go to your eSIM installation page to check if APN is required. In case the eSIM requires the APN to be manually set, you will need to do that for the hotspot APN as well as follows:

On Android:

  1. From the Home screen, head to Settings on your device (pull down the notification bar and hit the gear-shaped Settings button)
  2. Go to Network & Internet
  3. Tap “Hotspot & tethering.”
  4. Tap “Wi-Fi hotspot” and turn on “Wi-Fi hotspot.”

Yes. KPN TravelSIM supports access to 5G networks. In the Netherlands 5G is available nation-wide through our network. Listed below are all European countries KPN offers 5G access to:

It’s possible to activate an extra bundle when your data bundle expired. You can buy 2GB of data for €9.99. It’s also possible to extend the validity of your bundle. An additional 7 days for €4.99.

You can check and buy these bundles in your KPN TravelSIM account.

In most cases you’ll be able to use your apps and visit your favorite websites, just like you’re used to at home. In some cases access outside your home country might be restricted. Unfortunately we have no say in these matters.

Your TravelSIM account allows you to activate your eSIM in a secure online environment. It’s also the place where you can buy and activate additional bundles. Such as extra data. You can even extend the period your plan is valid.

Yes. You should be able to receive phone calls and text messages on your regular number. Most devices support the usage of multiple (e)SIMs at the same time.

If you are using an iPhone, some models have Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) technology. It allows you to remain connected using a physical SIM and eSIM simultaneously.

The amount of active eSIMs you can have differs on a per phone basis.

You won’t be able to make phone calls or send text messages (SMS). Our eSIM plans provide data only. You can, however, use Internet-based call and text message services such as iMessage, FaceTime, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

Unused data will expire after the validity period. You’ll receive a text message 24 hours in advance as a reminder.

You can check your data usage and the amount left through your TravelSIM account. Additionally, you’ll receive a text message when you used up 50%, 75% and 100% of your data. Free of charge of course.

To temporarily disable an eSIM:

  1. Go to Settings on your device
  2. Go to Cellular/Mobile
  3. You should see the option to “Turn on/off this line.”

This disables the eSIM temporarily. You can always re-enable or reuse this eSIM later. Note: This won’t pause or extended the eSIM’s validity. It will still expire at the original date.

To delete an eSIM

For IOS:

  1. Go to Settings on your device
  2. Go to Cellular/Mobile
  3. Tap on your eSIM
  4. Select Remove Mobile Data Plan
  5. You may get the option to ‘Remove eSim’ or ‘Delete Mobile Plan’, depending on your device

Unfortunately not. When the eSIM’s been downloaded on a device it can’t be transferred to another device. You’ll have to order a new one.
